running to stand still

After the previous traveling cakes, I was ready to think outside the box and stay local for the next one. Luckily, this cake didn't even need to leave our apartment. My roommate Caroline admirably ran the Marine Corp Marathon and more recently the New York City half marathon, with Team in Training:


Her (Guinness-flavored) runner's bib was of course created using the best cake pan ever, and also joins the T-Shirt Cake Pan Hall of Fame with such gems as:



As a final note, you might be noticing the dark areas around the cake:

 
It is possible that I was going for complete physiological accuracy and therefore had the cake appear to "sweat," as Caroline most likely did during her races. It is also entirely possible that the oil from the frosting simply seeped into the paper cakeboard overnight. The choice is yours, and yours alone!
