fashion knock-offs

Last night was time for another friend's birthday cake. For Andrew, who is never without his plaid flannel, I used the T-shirt cake pan + sleeves to recreate his beloved shirt.

It's a lot of fun to imitate something real, like trying to figure out the plaid pattern as closely as possible, and then figuring how to do it in icing. I also did that for Jenna's ugly horse sweater cake a few months ago:
These replica cakes require a bit of stalking on my part to find pictures to work from or the actual thing itself, but in the end the recipients don't seem to mind. So watch out - if you have a distinctive item of clothing, you could be next.
